A stormy day for Easton

Easton firefighters responded to over a dozen separate incidents in less than 24 hours yesterday. In the aftermath of a short but powerful storm, calls started coming in from all over town. Some of yesterday's calls included:

  1. 8:07 AM - A Carbon Monoxide alarm in a residence
  2. 11:38 AM - Smoke in a residence
  3. 2:36 PM - Transformer fire
  4. 2:48 PM - Wires down
  5. 3:14 PM - Odor of smoke
  6. 3:17 PM - Tree on wires
  7. 8:28 PM - Smoke alarm
  8. 9:04 PM - 2 separate lockouts
  9. 10:35 PM - lockout
  10. 1:27 AM Residential fire alarm
  11. ~1:45 AM Carbon monoxide alarm

This is an incomplete list, but it gives some idea of how busy things were. Trees and wires blocked major and lesser roads throughout town, notably Route 58 and Westport Road.

Easton Firefighters had at one point responded to four simultaneously running calls, manning four engines, almost emptying the apparatus floor.

2010 Memorial Day Parade

Directing traffic

The parade paid tribute to those who have fallen in defense of the freedoms we cherish. It celebrated the joys those freedoms bring us, and was fun for everyone who watched or participated. click here for a few photos of the day.

10 May 2010

Members of the Easton Volunteer Fire Company attended a training exercise at the Fairfield Regional Fire Training Center. The drill was a valuable opportunity to gain experience fighting live propane fires. Propane cylinders are common in many areas, but are especially abundant in the rural setting we enjoy here in Easton. It is vital that our firefighters be well versed in dealing with this sort of incident.

The Easton Fire department generally runs at least 3 drills a month. These drills cover a wide range of firefighting subjects, with special emphasis on areas judged to be most important in protecting our community.

10 Mar 2010

EFD responded to a basement fire in the early morning hours. Despite extreme smoke conditions and cramped spaces, the fire was brought under control in short order.

1 March 2010

Members attending the March meeting enjoyed a delicious corned beef dinner thanks to the efforts of the Siren Aide Club.

February 2010

A large structure fire on Route 59 near the Easton/Stepney border kept firefighters from both districts busy for many hours. The structure was saved, but serious damage was sustained. A threatened blizzard held off long enough that conditions were merely difficult, where they might have been terrible had the snow materialized as expected.
